STORYTELLING THROUGH THE CREATIVE IMAGERY OF STILL & MOVING PHOTOGRAPHY

At the core, he is a storyteller, but by definition; Derek Ursacki is a Director, Photographer & Writer.   Storytelling is at the forefront of his photography; still or moving. Drawing on inspiration of classic film directors such as Billy Wilder, Alfred Hitchcock and photographers of yesteryear like George Hurrell, Milton H. Greene and Bert Stern, he invites the viewer into the picture, telling their own story and navigating their own narrative through the lens of his camera.

Derek calls Toronto, Ontario, Canada home, while happily splitting his time in Nashville, Los Angeles, New York and venturing globally.

Threaded through his work is a passion-driven storyteller.  His art exudes a love for everything classic; cinema, photography, writing and music.

At twenty-one years old and with only two small directorial credits to his name, Derek wrote & directed a documentary on the iconic Canadian band “Blue Rodeo”, traveling with the band for five months, as well as spending time with them in the recording studio for the making of their album “Tremolo”.

With specialization in both still and moving picture genres, his twenty plus year career has given him directing expertise in narrative short and feature films, documentaries, music videos, commercials, fashion, advertising, portrait and fine art.

By way of film and television, Derek has worked on several projects with many to list, his highlights such as “Suits”, Golden Globe Award Winning - “The Handmaids Tale”, Emmy award winning, “The Kennedys” and the follow up picture “After Camelot”.  He also worked on Emmy nominated “The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe” and most recently, “Designated Survivor”.

Today, freelancing has afforded Derek such opportunities as exclusive photographer and videographer for Rick Brantley on the Kiefer Sutherland Reckless 2018 tour, capturing not only Rick Brantley, but Kiefer Sutherland as well.  Most recently he has teamed with FUGLY Los Angeles, a fashion line that brings awareness to putting an end to bullying and abuse, as their promotion photographer.

Ursacki’s passions drive him to find new projects, collaborations and opportunities.
